How do CE, IEC, and UL standards apply to BSLBATT® lithium-ion forklift batteries?

Every industry has regulatory and scientific leaders who set standards and benchmarks for products to promote safety, sustainability, quality, reduce risk, and achieve regulatory compliance. They reassure consumers that the products they purchase are not only safe, but have been rigorously tested, developed, and researched.

Although most people are aware of regulatory organization marks such as UL or CE, not everyone knows that there are different standards for products depending on their intended use, industry, etc. As an example, let's look at the BSLBATT® forklift lithium-ion battery.

Testing and Standards

Battery performance, longevity, quality, and safety are rigorously tested in BSLBATT® forklift lithium-ion batteries. UL 2580 certification alone doesn't tell the whole story.

Certified to UL 2580

There are BSLBATT® customers everywhere. Our batteries must perform well wherever they are used. To protect workers and equipment, they must also be safe and secure.


The BSLBATT® first-generation forklift lithium-ion batteries were developed in 2012 to meet Underwriter Laboratories' UL 2580 listing standards to ensure not only optimal performance, but also safety and quality.


This list was not easy to obtain. For electric vehicles, the UL 2580 standard covers electrical energy storage components, such as battery packs and combined battery pack-electrochemical capacitor assemblies and the subassemblies/modules that make up these components. This standard evaluates whether electrical energy storage components can safely withstand simulated abuse conditions and prevent personnel from being exposed to any hazards. At specified temperatures, this standard evaluates electrical energy storage components and modules based on charging and discharging parameters specified by the manufacturer.

Safety requirements for secondary lithium cells and batteries for industrial use - IEC 62619:2022

BSLBATT® forklift lithium-ion batteries provide our customers with the confidence that their material handling equipment is safe to use. Due to their unique power requirements, we applied for and obtained the IEC 62619:2022 standard for batteries used in industry. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62619 specifies the requirements and tests for the safe production of secondary lithium batteries and industrial batteries. Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), energy storage systems, and forklifts, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), rail, and marine vehicles are all included in the standard battery range.

When electrical components fail, this certification detects possible hazards.

Ultimately, the CE mark identifies a product as "safe for sale and use" throughout Europe.
